English Buttermilk Cookies with Cream Cheese Frosting

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup of unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 and 1/2 cups flour
  • 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • For the Frosting:
  • 4 tbs softened butter (1/2 stick)
  • 4 tbs cream cheese, softened
  • 1 and 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
These are wonderful soft little cookies that are great served with coffee or tea.
  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  • Cream together the butter and sugar.
  • Add the egg and vanilla and beat well.
  • Combine the dry ingredients.
  • Gradually add to the creamed mixture, alternating with the butter milk, until well mixed.
  • Drop by the rounded tablespoon onto a greased cookie sheet with about 2 inches between cookies.
  • Bake at 375 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes or until the edges are lightly browned.
  • Let cool before frosting.
  • For the frosting, beat together the butter, cream cheese, powdered sugar and vanilla until the mixture is a nice spreading consistency.
