Bread Pudding with Whiskey Sauce
Ingredients
4 beaten eggs | ||
2 and 1/4 cups half and half | ||
1/2 cup sugar | ||
1 tbs pure vanilla extract | ||
1 tsp ground cinnamon | ||
1/2 tsp ground cardamon | ||
4 cups French bread cubes | ||
1/3 cup golden raisins | ||
1/4 cup butter | ||
1/2 cup sugar | ||
1 beaten egg yolk | ||
2 tbs water | ||
2 tbs bourbon |
- In a bowl beat together eggs, half and half, sugar, vanilla, cardamon and cinnamon.
- In a 2 quart baking dish toss together bread cubes and raisins.
- Pour mixture evenly over bread mixture.
- Bake in a 350 degree oven for 45 minutes or until a knife inserted near the center come out clean.
- Cool slightly and serve with warm whiskey sauce if desired.
- To make the whiskey sauce in a sauce pan melt the butter.
- Stir in the sugar, egg yolk and water.
- Cook stirring constantly over medium low heat for 5-6 minutes or until the sugar dissolves and the mixture boils.
- Remove from the heat and stir in the bourbon.
- Serve warm.
