  • 4 eggs
  • 1 tbs corn meal
  • 1/4 cup evaporated milk
  • 1 tbs white vinegar
  • 1 (9 Inch) unbaked pie shell
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 2 cups white sugar
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • whipped cream for serving
  • Mint leaves for garnish

This is a super simple traditional southern pie. The secret ingredient is the vinegar, which gives the pie and incredible flavor.

  • Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
  • In a large bowl, mix the butter, sugar and vanilla together.
  • Mix in the eggs, then stir in the cornmeal, evaporated milk and vinegar until smooth.
  • Bake for 10 minutes, then reduce heat to 300 degrees and cook for another 40 minutes.
  • Let cool the cut and top servings with whipped cream and garnish with mint leaves.

  1. I made this pie this evening so far it looks great! My family has made this pie for generations. This is very simple and it omitted apple jelly.
