Traditional Shrimp Creole
Ingredients
1 and 1/2 lbs of shrimp, peeled and deveined, tails on | ||
1 large onion chopped | ||
2 tbs canola oil | ||
1 clove garlic, minced | ||
4 stalks celery, chopped | ||
1 green bell pepper, chopped | ||
3 bay leaves | ||
1 (15oz) can of tomatoes | ||
1 large can of tomato sauce | ||
3/4 tbs chili powder | ||
dash of Tabasco sauce | ||
2 tbs lemon juice | ||
2 cups rice |
- Cook rice according to package directions and set aside.
- Saute onions in oil.
- Add garlic, celery and pepper and cook using medium heat for about 5 minutes.
- Add remaining ingredients, except for rice and shrimp and simmer for 1 hour.
- Add shrimp and cook until shrimp are pink, about 8 minutes.
- Serve over rice.
