Spicy Indian Koftas
Ingredients
1 lb of ground lamb | ||
1 small onion, diced | ||
1 clove garlic, crushed | ||
1 tsp ground coriander | ||
1 tsp ground cumin | ||
1/4 tsp ground cinnamon | ||
1/2 tsp cayenne pepper | ||
1 tsp tomato paste | ||
1 tbs fresh mint, chopped | ||
1 tbs fresh cilantro, chopped | ||
oil for frying | ||
kosher salt and fresh cracked black pepper | ||
1 small tomato, peeled, seeded and finely chopped | ||
1/2 cucumber, peeled, seeded and finely chopped | ||
1 clove garlic, minced | ||
1 tbs fresh mint, chopped | ||
1/2 cup plain yogurt |
Koftas are spicy lamb meat balls that are served as an appetizer along with a yogurt dipping sauce.
- Mix all ingredients for the yogurt dip and allow flavors to marry for about 1 hour.
- Combine the ground lamb, onion, garlic, coriander, cumin, cinnamon, tomato paste, mint, salt, pepper and cilantro in a large bowl and combine well.
- Roll into small balls about half the size of a golf ball.
- Add about 1/2 inch of oil in a saute pan and using medium heat saute the koftas in batches until browned all over and cooked through.Drain on paper towels.
- Skewer each kofta with a tooth pic place the yogurt dipping sauce in the middle of a platter and place the koftas artfully around the dip.
