Maryland Steamed Blue Crabs


  • 1 cup Old Bay seasoning
  • 3 cups white vinegar
  • 1/4 cup black pepper
  • 3 cups beer
  • 3 dozen live Maryland blue crabs

This is the Maryland way.


  • Add the beer and vinegar to a large stock pot with a rack and tight fitting lid
  • Add the crabs in layers and season each layer with black pepper and Old Bay seasoning.
  • Bring the beer and vinegar to a boil and steam the crabs for 20-30 minutes.
  • Serve hot.
