Gingerbread

Ingredients

2 1/3 cups flour
1/3 cup sugar
1 cup molasses
3/4 cup hot water
1/2 cup shortening
1 egg
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp ground ginger
1 tsp ground cinnamon
3/4 tsp salt

 

  • Preheat oven to 325 degrees.
  • Grease and flour a 9x9x2 inch baking pan.
  • Add all ingredients to a bowl of an electric mixer and beat on medium speed for 3-4 minutes, scraping down the sides of  the pan several times.
  • Add the mixture to the baking pan and bake for 50-55 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the middle comes our clean.
  • Allow to cool, cut into squares and serve each square with a dollop of whipped cream.
